Indian export drive

India-based MKU has been awarded a contract worth $25 million for 40,000 bullet proof vests by Ecuador’s Ministry of Interior for its 43,000-strong police force.

The body armour was selected following extensive tests and field trials in Ecuador and deliveries are to be completed by May 2015.

The contract is representative of an Indian government drive to secure exports as the new prime minister Narendra Modi has declared that the export of defence equipment is a priority.

In the past three months the government has enhanced its foreign direct investment policy by raising stake of foreign shareholders from 26% to 49%.
