India receives first M777A2 howitzers
The Indian Army has taken delivery of two M777A2 ultra-light howitzers, the Indian Ministry of Defence announced on 18 May.
The guns will now be put through a trials process to prepare them for induction, using 155mm indigenous ammunition.
The Indian government is acquiring 145 M777s under a foreign military sale with the US agreed in November 2016.
Three more guns are scheduled to be received in September 2018 for training, with induction to begin from March 2019 at the rate of five guns per month until the complete consignment is received by mid-2021.
