ILA 2016: Close range impact
Rheinmetall and MBDA have launched a new very short range air defence system that is on display for the first time at the ILA 2016 exhibition in Berlin.
The plan is that it will be a mobile system that can provide escort protection with the possibility of integration with Germany’s future Tactical Air Defence System (taktisches Luftverteidigungssystem or TLVS).
The two companies stated that they are following a modular approach that uses existing sub-systems from their respective stables of equipment, and have utilised MBDA’s Mistral guided missile fitted onto the Rheinmetall MPCS turret. This reduces the risk.
