A new modular lightweight defensive structure system has been developed by Force Development Services (FDS).
Using armoured panels connected together the Modular Armour Protection System (MAPS) allows the user to quickly construct pillbox or tower type structures to protect soldiers outside their bases.
FDS Programmes Manager Bob Tyler told Shephard that MAPS was intended to reduce ‘the man-hours and logistics burden required to establish a defence position and deliver a more effective, re-useable and versatile alternative to labour-intensive sandbags or earth filled bastion solutions which offer only partially effective protection, and which are subject to degradation under sustained fire.’
