Germany delivers Marder AIFVs to Jordan

Germany is delivering 50 Marder armoured infantry fighting vehicles (AIFVs) to Jordan to help secure its borders with Syria and Iraq.

During the handover of the first 16 Marders to Jordan's King Hussein Brigade on 11 December, German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen said the AIFV ‘is up to the task’ of helping monitor and strengthen Jordan's 380km border with Syria and 180km border with Iraq against infiltration by non-state actors.

‘It protects the crew, it enables observation and it has proved its worth for decades,’ von der Leyen said.
