Semi-autonomous TRX is designed to perform a broad range of manned-unmanned teaming tasks

General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) launched a new semi-autonomous robotic vehicle during the virtual AUSA conference and exhibition on 13-15 October.

Called Tracked Robot 10-Ton (TRX), the UGV was designed using AI technology. The vehicle reflects work by GDLS in the Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport programme.

GDLS envisages that TRX will perform a broad range of manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) tasks, including direct and indirect fires, logistics (autonomous resupply), C-UAS, EW and reconnaissance.

On the virtual GDLS booth at AUSA, TRX was shown carrying AeroVironment Switchblade loitering munitions.

The company claims that the lightweight chassis (pictured) would enable TRX to operate in US Army formations such as the Stryker Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) and the Armored BCT.

The army is already working with industry to develop a family of light, medium and heavy solutions in its Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV) programme, which places strong emphasis on MUM-T.

However, it is too soon to say whether the US Army will consider TRX for some kind of role in the medium-weight RCV category.
