Finland is exploring options to procure a new UAS platform, as it attempts to improve the situational awareness of its ground troops.
Col Rainer Peltoniemi, Inspector of Infantry, confirmed to Shephard that the procurement process is in the concept development phase.
‘Finland intends to have a new small portable vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial system. It is supposed to enhance the situational awareness in [the] squad-platoon-company level,’ Peltoniemi stressed.
He explained that the VTOL UAS will deliver a brand new capability for the Finnish Defence Forces, although it is too early to identify which units will be equipped
