The Malaysian Army has conducted the first live firing of a new very short-range air defence (VSHORAD) system.
The Thales UK Starstreak VSHORADS missiles were fired at the Tanjung Logok range on 28 March. The system only arrived in-country three days earlier.
Three missiles were fired at a Meggitt BTT-3 Banshee subsonic target drone by teams drawn from the army’s 32nd Royal Artillery Regiment, the navy’s Base Air Defence Unit and the air force’s 401 Ground-Based Air Defence Squadron. Two missiles were declared hits.
Malaysia’s next Starstreak missile firing is scheduled for October.
