Defence Services Asia: Malaysian Army boss highlights developments

General Datuk Raja Mohamed Affandi Bin Raja Mohamed Noor, Chief of the Malaysian Army, spoke to Shephard about how the service is overcoming the difficulties of the current fiscal environment and is planning for the future.

‘The major challenge faced by the Malaysian Army in enhancing its capabilities is the budget constraint,’ Affandi explained. ‘But I think this issue is bearable, and is also a major issue for most other defence forces. We need to optimise our resources and be prudent in purchasing capital assets. The key capabilities that will be given priority for procurement are mobility and communication systems.
