Eurosatory: DCD chooses new ATR runflats
DCD Defence has chosen Tyron and Global Wheel to fit its Mountain Lion armoured utility vehicle with complete runflat wheel assemblies, it was announced in June.
Tyron's All Terrain Rubber (ATR) runflat wheels will allow the vehicle to be driven for at least 50km even with all tyres being damaged. They were selected after successful evaluation on DCD's Springbuck armoured personnel carrier.
Richard Glazebrook, managing director, Tyron Runflats, said: ‘By offering Mountain Lion with the complete wheel assembly not only are DCD reducing their production time, but the end user is being provided with a proven, highly reliable solution which keeps the vehicle moving in the event of sudden tyre deflation.
The Tyron ATR wheel assembly has a multi-part rubber runflat that is fitted to the two-part bolt-together steel wheels from Global Wheels. This system will be manufactured locally specially for the Mountain Lion.
The runflat has successfully completed ballistic tests. The bolt-together wheels are available in aluminium and steel. The ATR's rubber has been enhanced for bead-lock.
‘By offering Mountain Lion with the complete wheel assembly not only are DCD reducing their production time but the end user is being provided with a proven, highly reliable solution which keeps the vehicle moving in the event of sudden tyre deflation,' Glazebrook concluded.
