Eurosatory 2018: Controp targets Sight-HD for RWS integration
Controp unveiled its new Sight-HD targeting EO/IR payload at Eurosatory 2018. Designed for remote weapons stations (RWS), armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs), air defence systems and smaller maritime vessels, the Sight-HD has been designed to maintain bore-sight in conditions of shocks and vibrations.
The Sight-HD is a gyro-stabilised payload that was developed to withstand extreme environmental conditions, enabling mid-to-long range target acquisition, day and night, for mobile and stationary applications.
Two Sight-HD systems were displayed at Eurosatory: one on a Rafael RWS and one representing an integration with an AFV.
Weighing 13kg and measuring 220mm in diameter, the low-weight payload includes a thermal imaging (TI) camera using a 3-5µ cooled IR detector with a continuous zoom lens; an HD colour day camera with a continuous zoom lens; and an eye-safe laser range finder (ELRF). The system has been marinized to enable integration with maritime vessels.
The image processing features include local AGC on the TI and day cameras; video enhancement; automatic video tracker and picture-in-picture (PIP). A laser pointer, control unit (CU) and digital video recorder (DVR) are also available as optional add-ons.
When installed on AFVs, the payload can be employed for a range of applications, such as border surveillance, perimeter protection of sensitive installations, force protection, and route clearance.
Company representatives revealed at Eurosatory 2018 that the system was then in the process of being evaluated by several customers. The company is initially pitching the Sight-HD at system integrators and vehicle manufacturers, rather than primarily to the end user base.
