CGS say UK must be prepared for future deployments

British politicians must be prepared to deploy troops on challenging overseas operations when national interests are at stake, the head of the British Army has said.

Speaking at the RUSI Land Warfare Conference on 27 June, Gen Sir Peter Wall, chief of the general staff said: ‘Whilst the national rhetoric is about the avoidance of enduring campaigns and a reticence to put boots on the ground, perhaps understandably after the experiences of the past decade, we have got to be prepared politically, mentally, emotionally and militarily to intervene in the nations interest if needs must.’
