Belgian army battalions fire first Spikes
Operators from Belgian army manoeuvre battalions fired their Spike anti-tank missiles for the first time on 27 October on the Bergen-Höhne training area in northern Germany. Spike operators from six battalions fired one missile each.
The Belgian army's land competence centre and 2 Commando Battalion were the first to fire Spike last November, in Bergen-Höhne, so now all the manoeuvre battalions have fired the missiles.
Before the live firings, Spike operators received two weeks of technical training and two months of tactics training, with regular use of mechanical, indoor and outdoor trainers, especially the latter.
