BAE Systems Australia has signed a $2 million contract to produce ammunition carriers for the Australian Defence Force's (ADF's) M777 lightweight towed Howitzer, the company announced on 19 October.

Under the contract, the company will supply 80 Unit Load Ammunition Carriers (ULACs) to the Australian Army during 2016.

The ULACs, which will be manufactured in South Australia, will securely house and transport M777 ammunition, comprising projectiles and propellant bags. They will be a modern version of the equipment originally produced by Royal Ordnance in the UK.

Bob Holdcroft, land platforms program manager, BAE Systems Australia, said: ‘This will be the first time the ULACs have been manufactured in Australia for the ADF.’
