BAE delivers Archer to Sweden
BAE Systems has delivered the first production series Archer artillery system to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).
The company announced on 28 September it has handed over the 155mm gun mounted on a 6x6 chassis to the FMV at its Karlskoga facility,
The system provides high mobility, precision, and a powerful and flexible fire support. It has an extensive ammunition portfolio and features high levels of autonomous operation under protection. The system is based on proven subsystems.
Earlier, the company delivered the pre-serial Archer systems to the Swedish government in 2013.
Lena Gillström, managing director for weapon systems, BAE Systems, said: ‘BAE Systems Bofors and FMV have been working very closely to achieve our high-level requirements for the ARCHER programme. This is an important milestone as we begin the delivery of all systems for our Swedish customer. ARCHER will provide the Swedish armed forces with an advanced artillery system that focuses on the safety of our soldiers.’
Dan Ohlsson, acting director general, FMV, said: ‘ARCHER is an important part of strengthening the Swedish defence.’
