Support for ADF B-vehicle fleet inching closer
The Australian Department of Defence has referred a $175.50 million, LAND 121 Stage 2 Unit Sustainment Facilities Project to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works, it was announced on 18 September.
The facilities project supports the new B-vehicle fleet at defence sites across Australia, with the main work under the project to be delivered in the Townsville and Brisbane regions and the minor works to be delivered in Sydney, Puckapunyal, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin.
The work will include investment in maintenance workshops as well as associated repair part shops, loading and inspection ramps, weightbridges, associated hardstandings and vehicle shelters. If approved, construction will start in early 2016 and complete by late 2019.
Darren Chesterm, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, said: 'This a substantial investment in new facilities and equipment that will allow our world class defence force to get on with ensuring we can continue to live in a safe and secure Australia. Providing facilities to ensure the longevity of the incoming vehicle fleet will assist in supporting the training, preparedness operational capability of our defence force.'
