US missile manufacturer Raytheon and Swedish company Saab have been awarded an initial contract to demonstrate a guided munition for the US Army's Carl Gustaf weapon.

A statement released by Raytheon on 5 October stated that the new munition was in response to a US Special Operations Command requirement to increase the capability of the Carl Gustaf 84mm shoulder-fired weapon.

A value or length of contract has not been revealed.

‘The munition is intended to enable ground troops to engage multiple targets precisely at distances up to 2,000 meters, including moving targets,’ Kim Ernzen, Raytheon Land Warfare Systems
