US company ArmorSource is expecting to deliver the first 1000 test article samples of 375,000 helmets ordered by the US Defense Logistics Agency by 21 November this year.
The AS-505 lightweight, advanced combat helmets were ordered in August 2013 under a $92.6 million fixed price indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract. The helmets will be used by all US military forces.
The new helmet will weigh 113 grams less than the helmet currently in service.
Speaking to Shephard at the AUSA conference in Washington DC on 22 October, ArmorSource contracting manager Paul Garcia said the company was expecting the results from the evaluation
