Despite being one of the biggest arms importers in the world, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has in recent years looked to build its own defence industrial capacity and lessen its reliance on outside suppliers. This transition to a ‘knowledge economy’ has found some success, with the country now able to manufacture a range of defence equipment.
