ADF signs grenade launcher contract
The Australian government has signed the contract with Nioa for the lightweight automatic grenade launcher acqusition, the Department of Defence announced on 27 August.
The contract, valued at $47 million, covers the supply of more than 200 MK47 grenade launchers under the Australian Defence Force's Land 40 Phase 2 project. The selection of the system was announced in July 2015.
Deliveries will begin in the third quarter of 2016 and end by the middle of 2017.
Nioa will oversee the delivery and support of the General Dynamics-manufactured grenade launcher to the ADF. The contract also opens up opportunities for other Australian companies to provide ongoing maintenance and support services.
