ADEX 2019: Hyundai Wia debuts new 81mm mortar
South Korean weapon manufacturer Hyundai Wia unveiled a new 81mm mortar at Seoul ADEX 2019, one that will be adopted by the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) and Marine Corps.
Carrying the nomenclature KM114, this mortar is 8kg lighter than the incumbent KM187 81mm mortar used by South Korea’s military, according to Chul-Mo Yeo, a senior research engineer at Hyundai Wia.
Weight savings were achieved by using an Inconel 718 nickel-chromium superalloy material.
However, other performance parameters of the mortar are unchanged, said Yeo. The older KM187 mortar has a range of 75m-6,325m, with its maximum sustained rate of fire
