UK explores potential for large unmanned naval submersible
The UK MoD has launched a two-stage competition to examine the utility of UUVs for the Royal Navy based on an existing platform.
This comes at a time when navies around the world are taking advantage of this technology to take on dull, dirty and dangerous tasks and free up expensive manned submarines for more important tasks.
The announcement lists ASW, maritime security and the delivery of key payloads as the main missions of such platforms in the future.
With a budget of £2.5 million ($3.7 million), £1 million for the first research and development phase followed by £1.5 million
