UDT Asia 2016: Lightweight sonar system TRAPS subs

A new compact and lightweight sonar system designed for smaller surface vessels and unmanned surface vehicles is being developed via collaboration between GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc (GTI) and the defence solutions division of Curtiss-Wright.

This anti-submarine warfare (ASW) system of reduced size and weight has been christened the Towed Reelable Active Passive Sonar (TRAPS). Its compact nature means that heavier and more complex launch and recovery equipment (such as illustrated above) is not required.
