Philippines prepares to reactivate ROKN corvette
The transfer of a decommissioned 1,200t Pohang-class corvette from the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) to the Philippine Navy (PN) had languished for some time since first being mooted, but it is now moving forward with an invitation for bids to reactivate it.
Seoul had promised a second-hand corvette – ROKS Chungju, which was decommissioned on 27 December 2016 – to the Philippines in late 2016.
However, Manila took a long time to confirm the transfer and provide funding for this Pohang-class Flight III ASW corvette, certainly surpassing the original planned turnover date of the fourth quarter
