NATO takes stock of Norwegian frigate incident

The accident involving the Royal Norwegian Navy frigate Helge Ingstad will likely have some impact on Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) to which it was assigned, although the force will ‘adjust’, NATO has said.

A collision between KNM Helge Ingstad and the Malta-flagged oil tanker Sola TS in the early hours of 8 November in Øygarden caused significant damage to the frigate, which subsequently foundered on the nearby rocky shore. The tanker was accompanied by a tug at the time.

The frigate was evacuated and while there were no fatalities in the accident several crew members sustained minor
