Indo Defence 2018: HAL to upgrade Indian Coast Guard Dorniers

India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has given the green light for a mid-life upgrade of 17 of the country’s Dornier 228 twin-turboprop utility aircraft, following an announcement by India’s MoD on 27 October.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), India’s in-house aerospace and defence company, has been awarded the upgrade contract, once again demonstrating the government’s commitment to its Make in India programme.

The upgrades will target technology, as well as providing updated spares, and specialist test equipment and maintenance tools, and will look to cost India's MoD approximately $129.96 million.
