Germany, Norway sub cooperation green lit

Germany and Norway have sealed the deal on the intention to cooperate on future naval defence equipment, including the procurement of new submarines.

The two defence ministers, Ine Eriksen Søreide of Norway and Ursula von der Leyen of Germany, met at Eckernföerde naval base for a bilateral meeting commencing the German-Norwegian naval defence materiel cooperation.

Norway and Germany will now move forward to procure identical submarines.

Søreide said: ‘The cooperation will create opportunities for a number of companies in Norway. It will also have a positive impact on the development of high-tech competence and for the export potential of Norwegian
