Australia inks Sea 1180 OPV contract

A contract worth more than A$3 billion ($2.4 billion) for 12 OPVs for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has been signed with Lürssen, the Australian government announced on 31 January.

Minister for Defence Industry Christopher Pyne claimed that contract signature for Project Sea 1180 Phase 1 demonstrated the government’s ‘commitment to keeping on schedule and supporting Australian industry’.

Lürssen was declared preferred tenderer in late November and it will act as prime contractor for this design and build project.
