ViaSat to encrypt Scout

Data transfer and storage in the British Army’s new Scout SV reconnaissance vehicle will be protected by ViaSat encryption.

The company has secured a £3.8 million contract from Scout SV prime contractor, General Dynamics UK, to provide systems that will ensure important surveillance information gathered by the vehicle cannot be accessed by enemy units.

A spokesperson from ViaSat told Shephard that the data storage system is based on bespoke hardware and the encryption system itself is entirely hardware-based, for all data stored in the vehicle – whether video, voice, mission data, or another format.
