US Army advances ALE electronic warfare ambitions

The US Army has confirmed it is in the process of testing a number of small Air Launched Effects (ALE) in EW scenarios for FVL purposes.

Electronic attack (EA) and electronic protection (EP) activities are the two main areas of unclassified explorations but ‘a number’ of classified EW payloads are also under development, according to Brig Gen Walter Rugen, Director FVL Cross Functional Team.

The bulk of EW flight testing focuses on ALE assets flying from UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters across US west coast test ranges, including Yuma Proving Grounds in Arizona, and performing reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition
