UDT Europe: Bluefin develops undersea communications network

Bluefin Robotics is developing and demonstrating the Undernet undersea communication network.

Rand LeBouvier, business development manager for the company, told the Undersea Defence Technology conference in Alicante, Spain on 31 May that the system will employ autonomous surface nodes, which will network via satellite with a GPS capability.

'It's akin to the satellite space network,’ LeBouvier said.

The concept is an undersea communications network with its own power source, and includes 'deployed sensors' such as sea satellites, unmanned vehicles and undersea docks, and can go on a submarine or can be remotely operated. The individual sensors enter the dock autonomously
