DSEI 2017: Thales to bring new detection product using IR

UV threat detection systems have been extremely useful, but the next generation of systems will incorporate infrared, which outperforms UV in multiple ways, according to Thales.

Richard King, head of campaign of Defensive Aids Systems at Thales, said at DSEI on 12 September that their new Elix IR product will be available next year.

He added that the company has moved from looking at UV to focusing on IR.

‘It looks very much like the UV system, arguably because it does the same thing- and much more,' King said, adding that the infrared system overcame some of the disadvantages of UV systems.
