Tejas-PV1 flies with advanced EW suite
The Tejas-PV1 Light Combat Aircraft flew for the first time on 10 January with an advanced Electronic Warfare suite (EW suite) developed by the Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE).
DARE is an Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory. The EW suite was fitted with a radar warner and jammer. Various combat aircraft are currently equipped with basic radar warner receivers to warn the pilot when it detects a radar threat. In its first flight sortie, the EW suite was found to be detecting Radar signals operating in and around the flight path.
J Manjula, OS and director, DARE, said: 'LCA is the first fighter aircraft of India fitted with radar warner and jammer equipment with capability for both radar warning and jamming using a Unified EW Technology. Over the coming few months, ADA and DARE will be scheduling further sorties to evaluate the system in various signal scenarios.'
