Taiwan hacker conference proves unnerving
The 2018 Hacks in Taiwan Conference (HITCON) was disturbing.
After being founded in 2005, the 14th HITCON was held from 27-28 July at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre. It was the first such conference covered by Shephard, with roughly 1,500 attendees, including speakers from the international cyber-warfare community.
Lectures were mind-boggling and sounded like something from a fantasy or science fiction movie. Examples included 'Trooping Taiwan: Technical sophistication and connections in private espionage ecosystems’. Another was ‘Reverse engineering 101 of the Xiaomi internet of things [IoT] ecosystem’.
