Selex ES expands Gabbiano radar family
Selex ES unveiled a new addition to its Gabbiano radar family at the International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Poland on 3 September, called the Gabbiano TS-80 PLUS.
The Gabbiano radar systems provide a set of surveillance capabilities including high resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) for protection, patrol and surveillance missions. Effective over ground, sea and along coastlines, the radars can be installed on a wide range of platforms, and have been selected by ten customers worldwide.
The 44kg TS-80 PLUS utilises solid state technology, giving it the same performance of the larger Gabbiano T200 system while saving 25 kilos of weight and increasing its mean time between failure rate to 2500 hours.
The system has been designed for effective long-range surveillance, with a 360° antenna group with wide-elevation scan (+20°/-55°), a one metre wide flat antenna plate and 80 watts of power. It can be installed on the belly of an aircraft or in the nose.
The Gabbiano TS-80 PLUS comes equipped with the Gabbiano family mode suite which includes air to sea surveillance with Track While Scan (TWS), high resolution ground mapping (Spot/Strip-SAR), ship target imaging and classification with ISAR mode and navigation with ground mapping and weather avoidance.
