Say ta-ta to communication and surveillance problems

At last month’s DefExpo 2018 exhibition in Chennai, Tata Aerospace & Defence showed a 4x4 SUV-type solution offering mobile communications for both military and disaster relief purposes, as well as a mobile surveillance vehicle.

A Tata spokesman said the former, the Mobile Emergency Communication System (MECS, pictured), is designed to give communications to first responders. Based on a Tata GS800 single-cab 4x4, the vehicle acts as a hybrid IP private branch exchange (PBX) possessing both VoIP and time-division multiplexing voice capabilities.

Tata stated: ‘It has powerful voice and video digital signal processors to deliver high-performance encoding, decoding and conference features.’
