ADF C-RAM to merge with air defence capability

The Australian Defence Force's (ADF) counter-rocket, artillery and mortar (C-RAM) capability will be absorbed into a new ground-based air defence system to be tendered later this year.

Supplied by Saab Australia, the C-RAM capability and functionality provided since 2010 will become part of this new system - a request for tender for which is expected in the last quarter of 2016. A request for information was put out in June 2015.

The ADF rapidly instituted a C-RAM capability in 2010 to give early warning to troops operating in the Tarin Kot base and elsewhere in Afghanistan from rockets and mortar
