Saab develops Mk4 version of PS-05/A radar
Saab has developed an Mk4 version of the PS-05/A radar for the Gripen C/D aircraft, offering increased performance and operating range, as announced on 28 April.
The PS-05/A Mk4 has a new hardware configuration and radar back-end, and full AMRAAM and Meteor integration. The Meteor missile downlink is optimised for maintaining radar performance during long-range data linking.
The radar features a new Air-to-Air mode that increases acquisition range with 100% at low altitudes compared to previous version. According to Saab, this mode is also useful for detecting targets with a low radar cross section.
The PS-05/A Mk4 can be adapted to fit into most airborne platforms and integrated with standard avionics technology systems. It can be installed on any multi-role combat aircraft, UAV, jet trainer or other airborne platform.
Lars Tossman, head of airborne surveillance systems, electronic defence systems, Saab, said: 'The Mk4 is a world-class multifunction radar, with excellent ECCM performance, growth capability and with very low life cycle cost.'
