Saab hails X-band AESA trial

Saab completed the first flight trial of its new X-band active electronically scanned array (AESA) fighter radar on 8 April. The company stated on 24 April that the test flight of the radar (pictured) was successful and there would be ‘continuing flight trials in the coming months’. The test occurred in and around Linköping in Sweden’s south.

The radar is planned as an upgrade for installation on the company’s existing Gripen C/D aircraft which are in service with Czech, Hungarian, Swedish, Thai, and South African air forces, plus a single Gripen D platform in service with the UK’s Empire Test Pilots'
