Philippines reflects on troposcatter comms for Mindanao

Earlier this month the Philippines Department of National Defense (DND) invited two American companies to bid to meet a requirement for a tropospheric scatter (troposcatter) communications system.

The two firms invited to take part were Raytheon and Comtech Systems. Shephard obtained a copy of the letter of invitation to bid, which required the recipients to treat the procurement process with ‘extreme confidentiality’.

The troposcatter system will connect military headquarters in Zamboanga with the restive island of Tawi-Tawi, both in Mindanao.

It is unclear what systems each company will offer the DND, but Comtech Systems offers the Modular Transportable Transmission System
