Northrop Grumman to make more mission computers for Venoms and Vipers
Northrop Grumman has obtained a $44.55 million contract modification from Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to make more mission computers for US and FMS helicopter programmes.
The company will produce and deliver an extra 228 H-1 Tech Refresh Mission Computers, increasing the quantity from 545 to 773.
These computers will be installed on UH-1Y Venom and AH-1Z Viper helicopters operated by domestic and FMS customers.
Work is expected to be completed in December 2023.
Shephard Defence Insight notes there are no overseas customers yet for the UH-1Y, although negotiations between the US and the Czech Republic produced a letter of acceptance in 2019.
FMS orders for the AH-1Z have been placed by Bahrain, the Czech Republic, Pakistan and Romania.
