Singapore Airshow: Manila confirms Israeli radars
After a long-running process, the Philippines has finally inked a deal with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Elta Systems for three over-the-horizon air surveillance radars.
The contract for the ELM-2288 air defence and air traffic control radars is worth $56 million. It was signed by Defence Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Elta’s regional director for marketing and sales Ilan Bublil on 21 December, but it was only publicised in early February.
Even at the time of the ADAS defence exhibition in July 2014, IAI Elta representatives told Shephard that contract signature for these air defence surveillance radars was ‘imminent’.
