Lockheed Martin's MONAX communications system wins Edison Award
Lockheed Martin's MONAX 3G wireless communications system has been honored with a 2011 Edison Best New Product Award. MONAX received the Bronze Award in the Applied Technology category at the award gala here April 5.
The Edison Awards are presented annually to innovative companies for products and services, and to business leaders to symbolize the persistence and excellence personified by Thomas Alva Edison, inspiring America's drive to remain in the forefront of innovation, creativity and ingenuity in the global economy.

MONAX is a powerful, new communications system that combines the convenience of smartphone technology with the power and flexibility of a secure, highly portable infrastructure. MONAX gives our nation's warfighters the convenient and immediate communication capability they need to achieve mission success.
The MONAX communications system connects a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) smartphone to a ground or airborne MONAX XG Base Station, enabling the use of a single, convenient, touch screen device. The system is frequency flexible, connects hundreds of users to a single base station, and delivers superior range and link performance in voice, video and data transmission. The network uses a secure RF link, protected through exportable encryption for joint and coalition operations.
