Leonardo to test new decoy

9th December 2016 - 09:00 GMT | by Grant Turnbull in London

RSS

Having already secured UK orders for its BriteCloud expendable active decoy (EAD), Leonardo is now forging ahead with an additional variant that could further boost international sales.

BriteCloud – a small jamming unit that is dispensed from a standard flare and chaff cartridge – is designed to decoy modern RF-guided missiles and fire control radars and is being billed as an alternative to towed decoys or legacy countermeasures such as chaff.

In its current form, the EAD is compatible with 55mm diameter flare and chaff dispensers used predominantly by Royal Air Force jets and Swedish-built aircraft such as the Saab Gripen.
