Latest Scanter GSR Radar protects the maritime perimeter

The Scanter Ground Surveillance Radar (GSR) system, as the latest addition to Terma's Scanter radar family, brings a new dimension to perimeter surveillance for naval bases, ports, and other critical coastal infrastructures.

Operating in the Ku-band, the system is a short-to-medium range surveillance sensor designed to perform 360 degree search and detection of humans and other small moving targets in clutter-filled environments.

The Scanter GSR functions in two modes simultaneously: as a Doppler radar, it detects movements in the presence of high clutter, while as a high resolution radar, it measures with high precision to discriminate between targets close to one another. Precise angle and distance measurement permits the definition of alarm areas with less than 1 m resolution.

Weighing less than 30 kg, Scanter GSR comprises a high-resolution pulse-Doppler radar sensor, a processing hardware unit, rotating mechanics and an Internet Protocol (IP) connection. All necessary interfaces are via IP links; the system can co-exist on a switched or routed local area network with other units.

Low power (8 W maximum) and high frequency contribute to a low probability of interception. In addition, the radar applies high-resolution frequency-hopping modulation, coherent detection, Doppler speed measurement and improved signal-to-noise ratio by applying digital signal processing.
