Japan is testing C-2 ELINT aircraft

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) is developing a new ELINT aircraft based on Kawasaki’s C-2 transporter (pictured). As the C-2 has a 30t payload capacity and plenty of internal volume, equipment and operators can be easily added to this specialist version.

The C-2 ELINT variant’s first flight occurred at Gifu Air Base, home of the JASDF’s Air Development and Test Wing, on 8 February. The JASDF will eventually procure four C-2 ELINT aircraft and deploy them at Iruma Air Base.
