India initiates search for thermal imagers

The Indian Army is on the hunt for thousands of handheld thermal imagers for utilisation as day/night surveillance devices, with an RfI released to industry this month.

The branch in charge of the process to procure 12,389 uncooled thermal imagers is the Directorate General of Artillery. The Indian Army is looking for ‘state-of-the-art lightweight equipment’, with only responses from Indian vendors possessing tie-ups with OEMs being entertained.

The modular imagers must have a laser rangefinder as well as incorporating GPS, a digital and magnetic compass, inclinometer and day/night binoculars. Combining these capabilities in a single device will reduce the load
