Helitech 2015: Iridium readies Certus service

An advanced broadband service eventually offering 1.4Mb/s is scheduled to be commercially available to Iridium users starting in 2016.

Testing has begun on new Broadband Core Receiver (BCX) circuit boards, which is a critical milestone towards the establishment of the Iridium Certus service.

It will be enabled by the Iridium NEXT satellite constellation due for commercial launch at the end of 2016.

Prototype BCX are being tested by Iridium at its facility in Chandler, Arizona where a satellite and ground infrastructure network set up will prove the broadband links.
