F-16 upgrade will give RSAF flexibility

An F-16 Block 52 upgrade programme will give the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) greater firepower and flexibility.

Announced in December 2015, the midlife upgrade was awarded to Lockheed Martin and radar partner Northrop Grumman. Singapore’s F-16 fleet will be installed with a Link 16 tactical data link, Northrop Grumman AN/APG-83 Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) and the ability to launch JDAMs and AIM-9X missiles.

Currently, RSAF F-16s use the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Smart Data Link that was picked over Link 16 in 1999.
