EW Europe: Leonardo's RF renaissance

After over a decade of fighting insurgency forces and a focus on the threat from low-cost MANPADs, industry is once again seeing a return to requirements that call for radio frequency protection against complex threats such as long-range surface to air missiles (SAM).

Dave Appleby, VP sales of electronic warfare at Leonardo Airborne and Space Systems told Shephard that there was a 'renaissance' when it came to RF protection, which stems from the proliferation of longer range, tactical and strategic, SAMs deployed by the likes of Russia.
